How to View Transaction History and Get a Bank Statement

How to view your transaction history and get a statement in the banking app

Do you need to show someone how much money you spent last month, or do you simply want to recall what exactly was charged to your card? All of this is in your bank's app, and finding it is easier than it looks. This guide will show you, step by step, where to look for the list of all your transactions and how to get an official document — a statement — in PDF format. Take your time. You cannot break anything here — you are only looking at your own data, not changing anything, and not sending anything to anyone.

What is "transaction history" and a "statement"?

Your transaction history is simply a list of all your purchases, transfers, and incoming payments over a period of time. Each line in that list is one transaction: a date, the name of the shop or person, and an amount.

A statement is the same list, but presented as an official document with the bank's stamp on it. You are often asked to show a statement at other institutions, for example at an embassy or when filling out paperwork. You can save a statement as a PDF — a type of file that looks the same on any screen and is easy to print.

Before you begin

You will need your bank's app already installed on your phone, and you should know how to log in. If you have not installed the app yet, or do not know how to log in, use the other guides on this site first.

Step by step — how to find your transaction history

  1. Unlock your phone the way you usually do.
  2. Find your bank's icon on the screen — a small colourful square with the logo.
  3. Touch that icon once with your finger.
  4. Log in to the app the way you normally do.
  5. Wait a few seconds for the main screen to load.
  6. Find your account on the main screen — usually a large number near the top.
  7. Touch the account name or the balance number itself once with your finger.
  8. Look to see whether a list of recent transactions appears below the number.
  9. If you do not see a list, look near the bottom of the screen for the word "History" or "Transactions" and touch it.

Now you have a list in front of you: date, name, amount. That is your transaction history.

How to choose the period you need

By default, the app usually shows only the last few weeks. If you need a different span of time, for example last month or all of last year, you can change it.

  1. Near the top of the transaction list, find a label with dates or a calendar-shaped icon.
  2. Touch that label or icon once with your finger.
  3. A small calendar or a list of ready-made options will appear, for example "Last week", "Last month", "Choose dates".
  4. Touch the option you need, for example "Last month".
  5. If you want exact dates, touch the day the period should start, then the day it should end.
  6. Touch the "Done" or "Apply" button to confirm your choice.

The transaction list will update right away and show exactly the period you chose.

How to view or save a statement as a PDF

If you need the official document itself, not just the list on screen, look for a separate statement button.

  1. On the transaction history screen, find the word "Statement" or an icon that looks like a sheet of paper.
  2. Touch that word or icon once with your finger.
  3. If the app asks for a period, choose it the same way as described above.
  4. Find a button labelled "Download", "Save", or an arrow icon pointing downward.
  5. Touch that button once with your finger.
  6. Wait a few seconds while your phone prepares the file.
  7. When the word "Done" appears, or the document opens on its own, the statement is already saved on your phone.
  8. To find the saved file later, look for an app called "Files" or "Downloads" on your phone's screen.

If you need to show the statement to someone, for example staff at an institution, it is best to do this in person or through the official method that institution recommended to you.

What to do if something goes wrong

Do not worry if a label on your screen looks different from what is described here. Apps differ a little between banks. Calmly look for similar words: "History", "Transactions", "Statement", "Download".

  • You cannot find the statement section. Try touching three horizontal lines or a small circle with your initials — that is often where an extra menu with all the sections is hiding.
  • The file will not download. Check that your phone is connected to the internet — Wi-Fi or mobile data. Try closing the app and opening it again.
  • The statement opened, but the text is too small. Touch the screen with two fingers and spread them apart — the image will get bigger.

If you see a transaction in the list that you did not make, this matters. Call your bank on the number printed on the back of your payment card. This is free. Never call a number from a text message or an email, even if it claims to be "the bank's security department". And remember: a real bank employee will never ask you to read out a password or an SMS code over the phone, and will never ask you to send your statement to them through a messaging app or to an unfamiliar email address.
